Projector Screen Gain Explained

Screen gain describes how a screen distributes reflected light compared with a reference surface. It is not a quality score. A high-gain screen can concentrate more light toward a narrower viewing area; a lower-gain ALR screen may trade some raw brightness for stronger directional control and more consistent black perception in a lit room.

What 1.0 gain means

A 1.0-gain reference surface is used as a baseline for reflectivity. Higher numbers indicate more light directed toward the measurement position, while lower numbers indicate less. The distribution pattern matters as much as the peak number.

Why ALR screens often have lower gain
